Past Lives by Sign:
Ever wondered about your former lives? Your Sun sign (and Moon sign, if you
know it) provides intriguing clues to the past, which lives on in your
subconscious mind. An Aries who's always sparring for a fight may once have
braved the harsh deserts of the Middle East as a warring nomad. And where
does Gemini get that agile mind? From lifetimes in ancient Greece spent
learning many languages. A Cancer's life is all about family due to memories
of rearing children in matriarchal Crete. Capricorns rise naturally to a
responsible position because they were once military strategists in ancient
China or Native American chiefs. Who were you in a previous lifetime?
Aries (March 21 to April 19)
In your heart, Aries, you're a warrior ... and always have been. Memories of
glory on the battlefield still live on in your soul, which explains why you
re so quick to take offense or fight for what you believe in. You may have
been a tribal warrior in ancient Palestine, or fought as a Ninja in Asian
lands. Perhaps you honed your athletic skills as a runner in ancient Sparta,
or used your brawn to defend your Macedonian king. Now your challenge is to
utilize your fiery, impetuous nature to bring about peace instead of war.
Taurus (April 20 to May 20)
A deep love of nature is imprinted in your soul, Taurus, from lives spent
raising plants and animals in pastoral settings like Thailand or the South
Seas. This explains your green thumb! And, you honed your love for beauty
and art crafting objects such as woven tapestries and shoes, likely in
Oriental cultures ... where your well-developed feminine sensibilities were
highly regarded. In pre-Columbian America, you honored the Earth as your
mother. In your pursuit of material things, remember that She is your true
security.
Gemini (May 21 to June 20)
You've always been a restless soul, Gemini, even in past lives. You sought
action and adventure in Europe in the Middle Ages, and may have even been
among the nobility of France or England. Jousting tournaments or trade
caravans to India or China were part of your world. Fleet of foot and tongue
you were often cast in the role of messenger or translator. Your thirst for
knowledge and novelty has led to an overdeveloped mind, but now it's time to
cultivate the heart.
Cancer (June 21 to July 22)
Your past lives have often revolved around family dramas, Cancer. Sometimes
you play the role of dutiful mother, and other times you are the rebellious
or dependent child. You probably lived in matriarchal, close-knit cultures
such as those of early Egypt, in which the Great Mother was worshipped as
all-powerful. Though you learned to be an excellent nurturer while raising
many children or care-taking others, you may have failed to develop your
individuality. Now you must seek to understand and nourish yourself.
Leo (July 23 to Aug. 22)
Royalty runs in your blood, Leo. Those childhood daydreams of the courts of
Kings and Queens in Europe or ancient Mesopotamia may have their roots in
distant memories. Ever wonder why you're so comfortable being in the center
of things? You've spent many lifetimes as an accomplished performer -- from
Roman gladiator to celebrated Italian opera singer. Or perhaps you were a
high-ranking Viking general. Your ego is well developed -- now you're
learning to harness it to work for the good of the whole.
Virgo (Aug. 23 to Sept. 22)
Your uncanny ability to serve and heal others is not new to you on a soul
level, Virgo. You were probably a monk or nun in medieval Europe, setting
aside your personal concerns for a higher purpose. And your talent for
separating the wheat from the chaff derives quite literally from lifetimes
as an herbalist or farmer, perhaps in Celtic lands. While initiating young
people in an Amazon rain forest tribe, you became a great teacher. Your
challenge now is to shift from industrious doing to relaxed being ... and
enjoy life
Libra (Sept. 23 to Oct. 22)
Picture yourself strolling the manicured gardens at the court of Louis the
Fourteenth. Your refined sensibilities and love of beauty were developed
long before this lifetime, Libra. You were likely among the great artists
and poets of ancient India or classical Greece, and had your heyday in the
Italian Renaissance. But your sense of justice was also sharpened by being a
"have" in a "have-not" world. Now, your mandate is to help balance the
scales.
Scorpio (Oct. 23 to Nov. 21)
Your soul has often journeyed through dark and dangerous realms, Scorpio, in
its search for deeper meaning. You may have been a slave or concubine in
ancient Persia, learning how to retain your dignity even while subject to
another. Or, perhaps you were a medieval alchemist or astrologer, divining
the secrets of the universe. You may have been among the culturally advanced
Chinese, where you learned to perform what was required ... but also to
suppress your feelings. Being upfront is your challenge in this life.
Sagittarius (Nov. 22 to Dec. 21)
In your quest for freedom, Sagittarius, you've been exploring the world for
millennia. You may have crossed the country in a covered wagon or the ocean
as a Spanish explorer. And, you didn't hesitate to invade and defeat the
cultures you met to forge your new life. Perhaps you pursued a spiritual
calling as a priest or evangelical missionary. Either way, you were often
separated from your family and culture. You've become a budding planetary
citizen ... now your task is to put down roots and blossom.
Capricorn (Dec. 22 to Jan. 19)
You've always been wiser than your years, Capricorn ... because you've spent
lifetimes honing your skills and executive capabilities. You were probably
among the natives of North America, where you developed a knack for living
close to nature and being a leader among men. You're a natural builder and
may have helped to construct pyramids in Egypt or Peru, where your spiritual
interests were first piqued. Now you must learn to fuse the material and
spiritual ... to create heaven here on earth.
Aquarius (Jan. 20 to Feb. 18)
Your role as a dreamer and visionary dates back to prior lifetimes, Aquarius
According to psychic Edgar Cayce, your sign is associated with the
prehistoric "space age" civilization of Atlantis, which sank beneath the
waves due to misuse of technology. No wonder you're so attuned to computers,
mathematics and symbolic systems like astrology. In ancient Baghdad, you may
have been the king's magician. Or more recently, you helped develop atomic
energy. You're called to use your brilliance to serve mankind.
Pisces (Feb. 19 to March 20)
You're an "old soul," Pisces -- this may well be the last of many lifetimes
for you. Because you've long subjugated your ego to a higher cause --
perhaps as a healer or spiritual initiate -- the light of love and
compassion shine strongly in you. You're well acquainted with sacrifice,
perhaps literally as an Aztec offering to the land. You may also have
subconscious memories as a follower of Jesus. You're accustomed to setting
aside your personal concerns for the good of all ... just make sure your needs
are also met.

Enchanted Chocolate Strawberries
Enchanted Chocolate Strawberries
Strawberries are in season now. To make your love blossom, we will draw upon the energies of Friday for love, spring for growth, and chocolate, for, well, chocolate! You will need 2 pints of clean dry strawberries, 1 bag of chocolate chips, 1 tablespoon vegetable shortening, and wax paper on a cookie sheet. Melt the chocolate chips and shortening in the microwave. When completely melted, dip each strawberry in the chocolate and while coating, say:
Close are we, my love and I,
As chocolate and strawberries side by side,
Enchant for me this magical feast,
Passionate love shall be unleashed!
As each strawberry is coated, lay them out on the wax paper. When you’re done, put them in the fridge for one hour. Make sure you tell your love that you have an enchanted and passionate dessert to share after dinner. Let the magic of your love be awakened!
This is for all of my girls who believe men are still worth the trouble.... I, on the other hand, would make them, and enjoy eating them ALL!!! I wouldn't share with that man if you paid me!!! GIGGLE

SPRING
Spring is the season of new life, beginnings, and growth. The New Moon is a time of renewal and rebirth; it represents the Maiden goddess. This is an great time to start projects, till gardens, and begin things that will take a while to reach fruition.
Put your seeds, overnight, in a bowl of water left where moonlight can shine on it. Cultivate soil to 1/2-inch depth, sow seeds, and cover loosely. Pour the bowl of water over them. Then say:
Maiden of the silver Moon,
Show your flower face here soon.
Let them grow so swift and high,
Like a ladder to the sky.
Perfume from your palace fair
Hangs in sultry evening air.
When the owls begin to sing,
Bring white moths upon the wing.
Goddess, gloriously bright,
Bless me now by New Moon light.
Keep the soil moist until your flowers sprout.

SALT
One does not have to venture far into the world of magic and witchcraft to
find references to using salt for the purpose of purification. The use of
this basic mineral in practical, ritual and religious matters can be traced
all the way back into the fogs of pre-history. Salt has been almost
universally accepted and used for this purpose despite the cultural
differences or distance between ancient civilizations.
In an older world, with an entirely different view of science than the
modern all-material outlook of the Industrial Revolution, it was discovered
that salt was a perfect physical representation of the element of Earth. On
the purely mundane level of the physical level of reality, salt acts as a
preservative, creating an environment hostile to the growth of putrefying
forces. We know them as bacteria.
Salt's ability to absorb moisture and preserve foods led to the
understanding that it "purified" the substance it was placed in. In ritual
use it was discovered that salt also absorbed psychical energies and
retained them within its structure.
Despite the appearance of solidity the material world offers our limited
physical vision, the fog of atomic and sub-atomic particles that comprise
the universe are only differentiated by patterns of energy. It is only the
patterns of energy creating molecular bonding that distinguishes and
separates your fingers from the computer mouse in your hand.
The energies that form all the aspects of matter have a vibration frequency
they harmonize with. The only real "veil" between what we see as the
physical level and the astral or spiritual levels of reality is a matter of
frequency. As salt is an essential and not insubstantial part of our
physical bodies, we absorb a multitude of energetic vibrations in our daily
lives. In order to reorient and homogenize our energy for focused magic work
it is necessary to absorb and reorient our psychical vibrations. Salt was
found a long time ago to be the perfect medium for this.
This is why a bath in salted water before performing ritual magic is so
important. The water washes impurities from your physical body as the salt
absorbs the disharmonious energies from your astral body. This leaves you
totally cleansed and your psychic aura reoriented so you may begin your work
without frequency distortion.
It should be noted that while the industrially manufactured table salt can
be used, it only contains the two elements of sodium and chlorine. The best
form to use in magical and ritual work is sea salt. By using the elements of
Fire (heat) and Air (evaporation) to extract the Earth from Water, you have
a pure substance that also contains trace particles of all the substances of
the material world that have dissolved into the oceans.
In the same way, giving your magical working tools a salt-water bath will
absorb the random and sometimes negative energies they have collected
through previous uses. It is important to the magical worker that they
purify new tools when they are finished so as to begin their working life
removed of any negativity imbued as a byproduct of working the material they
were made with.
As a means of protection, a salt ring laid around you during ritual or
ceremonial working can prevent etheric energy entities from crossing into
your circle. The salt acts as a repellent to many pure energy beings as it
has the power to disrupt and absorb the energy bonds of their etheric form.
You can create barriers against etheric energy beings by placing lines of
salt across doorways and window frames to help secure your home from
malevolent forces. It should be cautioned that too lavish a use of salt can
have the same effect on benign and helpful etheric beings as well.
However, in order to clear yourself and an area of psychic energy remnants,
the use of salt is popularly one of the best methods. The old Roman
superstition of throwing salt over one's shoulder is a descendant of the
practice of casting salt over one's body to purify it of disharmonious
psychic energies. Even the Catholic Church understands the importance of
salt in purification of the aura and the psychic body. Blessing pure water
mixed with sea salt is how Holy Water is made.
While the individual ritual, belief system or magical path you are on may be
as unique as befits each individual, it is a universal truth that salt is an
essential ingredient in the consecration and purification of your holy self.

SIGH
Every time I think I have my "Mothers Brain" under control..... She pops out at the most unusual times!!!!
Thinking about Easter dinner, and all of a sudden, I'm on a step ladder, reaching over the refrigerator to those seldom used cabinets..... and pulling out the crystal serving dishes!!!!!! One for pickles, celery, olives...... one for the roast pork, one for the roasted rosemary potatoes...... SIGH
She manages to sneaks back into my brain!!!! But thank the goddess, only on special occasions!!! So my guests are going to pluck pickles from crystal dish's!!!! And if they don't like it.....TOUGH!!!!! GIGGLE

Spell for Spring!!!!
Gather in the forest, around a blazing
fire. Chocolate brown robes to honor the yummy goddess.
Chocolate bunny in one hand, and a lavender peep in the other.
then recite the spell:
Little bunnies hopping round
as I smash them in the ground
spring is here I hear them say
but those bunnies are too gay
smash them down, and grind them up
bunny butter for my sup
Using two Graham crackers, that have the proper pentagram drawn on them with
icing... place the bunny and peep between them, heat on the fire, and eat with
much lip smacking and sighs of happiness's.
As you close the circle, bury the sticky napkins inside of it to insure plenty
of chocolate Bunny's for the next spring.
Goddess bless me

Your own worst enemy
THE TONGUE CAN BE YOUR WORST ENEMY!
Your words, your dreams, and your thoughts have
Power to create conditions in your life.
What you speak about, you can bring about.
If you keep saying you can't stand your job,
You might lose your job.
If you keep saying you can't stand your body,
Your body can become sick.
If you keep saying you can't stand your car,
Your car could be stolen or just stop operating.
If you keep saying you're broke, guess what?
You'll always be broke.
If you keep saying you can't trust people,
You'll always have someone in your life to hurt
And betray you.
If you keep saying you can't find a job,
You will remain unemployed.
If you keep saying you can't find someone
To love you or believe in you,
You will attract more experiences to confirm
Your beliefs.
If you keep talking about a divorce or breaking up
Then you might just end up with it.
Turn your thoughts and conversations around
To be more positive and power packed with
Faith, hope, love and action.
Don't be afraid to believe that you can have
What you want and deserve.
Watch your Thoughts, they become words.
Watch your words, they become actions.
Watch your actions, they become habits.
Watch your Habits, they become character.
Watch your Character, it becomes your Destiny.
The minute you settle for less than you deserve,
You get even less than you settle for.

warmer weather is trouble!!!!
I went outside today because the weather is fine! And it got me into trouble!!! I had noticed that last year the cauldron seemed to be too dry. I kept watering, but the plants died out anyway..... so I decided to investigate! BAD MOVE!!!
I knew that it had been cracked before I got it, and Barb said Charlie (heR hubby) had fixed it..... WRONG!!!! It still had a big crack in it, and the water was running right out of it!!!
No problemo... giggle.... I had to take it down....BIG PROBLEM!... but I managed it, and then I emptied it, and now I'm gonna have to FIX IT!!!!
I know the stuff to fix it, having used the metal putty before, I know where to get it..... but the problem remains..... filled with dirt it will keep cracking because of the weight of it.
So I have few solutions.....
One: keep it on the ground instead of hanging.
Cool idea, but I love the look of it hanging!! But on the ground it will support it's weight much better, and stop the cracking
Two: Fill most of it up with empty plastic bottles and other light weight stuff, cover with a layer of plastic, and then some potting soil and plants... lighter weight, less cracking. (This one seems the best answer!)
Three: fill up with light weight plastic (like empty milk bottles and such), put in a small plastic tub, and turn the whole thing into a water feature!!!
I have plenty of time to think about it. First I gotta fix it, and then I'll work on what I'm going to do with it. But cracked or not... I LOVE MY CAULDRON!!!!!!

Sigil Magick
Sigil Magick
by Dreoilin
Symbols are the language of the Unconscious Mind. Every good psychoanalyst
knows this. Every good Magickian knows it too. Abstract symbols manage to
circumvent the logical chatter of the Conscious mind and speak directly to
the Deep Mind. And that is why if one wishes to get a clear message to the
Unconscious quickly and with relative ease...then Sigils are the way to go.
Now there are literally dozens of traditional ways to practice Sigil Magick
and anyone with a minimum of imagination could easily come up with dozens
more. We will not even attempt to cover them all here. Rather we will give
an example of two fairly simple techniques which have been personally tested
and found to bring marvelous results.
The first thing one must have to practice Sigil magick is a desire. A need.
A sincere Want. Something very important (to yourself at any rate). We at
Ambrosia are not of the opinion that it is a naughty thing to use magick to
bring gain for oneself. Indeed, we can't for the life of us figure out what
else magick could possibly be for. If you fear that using Magick to *get
things* is going to earn you a karmic spanking, then by all means read no
further. For those of you who share our belief that the Universe is a place
of plenty with the capability (indeed the fervent desire) to bring you every
single thing you ever wanted...we continue.
As we said...First there must be a Desire. This desire must be very clear.
All magick, Sigil and otherwise, depends first and foremost on the Magickian
s ability to visualize EXACTLY what is wanted in the minutest of detail. If
you don't want whatever it is so bad that you can smell it and taste it and
feel it in your hands, then what would be the point of going to all the
trouble of creating a Sigil to obtain it? Magick is hard work, after all.
The next thing, is to be able to state the visualized desire clearly and
precisely in one (preferably short) sentence. This is generally referred to
as the Statement of Intent. Be very, very sure exactly what your intention
really is. Many would-be Magickians leave just enough loose ends dangling
about in their spells to hang themselves...DON'T YOU DO IT! Remember the
first Universal Law...KNOW KNOW KNOW. If you don't know, please don't do it.
If you don't know and you do it anyway...then don't say we didn't warn you.
You may construct the statement however you wish. We aren't big on those
sorts of details here. Use a different language (so long as you are sure of
what you're saying). But be very careful. Read your Statement over a few
times. Walk away from it and come back with a clear head. Words are tricky
critters. Many of them have two meanings and almost all are easily twisted.
One thing we will recommend at this point is using the preface 'My Will to-'
rather than another we have read which goes 'My intention to-'. We all know
what the road to Hell is paved with and besides, 'My Will to' falls rather
neatly in line with the Laws.
First you Know what it is you want.
Then you state your Will to obtain it.
Next you Dare to construct a Magick Sigil that will do just that.
And last (but by no means least!) you Keep Silent about what you've been up
to.
Let us digress here just long enough to say that Keeping Silent means much
more than just not chattering to other people about your workings. It means
you do not allow your Conscious Mind to chatter away to Itself about them
either. You keep your Self silent and wait without worrying or monitoring or
measuring or counting, utterly confident that eventually, usually in the
most unexpected way, your Will shall be done.
Once you have constructed your Statement and are satisfied that it says
EXACTLY what you want (and in some cases when you want it by) then write it
out in full. We don't care how you write it. Use Greek letters, hieroglyphs
or Runes. Whatever is close to your heart. If it speaks to your Soul,
believe us, it will speak to your Deep Mind. However you choose to write it,
write it proudly. Write it confidently. Smile while you write it. After all,
in Occult belief you already have the desire simply by stating your desire
for it. Now all you have to do is refocus yourself on the experience of
Having it instead of Wanting it.
The next phase is the construction of the Sigil itself. There are any number
of ways to break the Statement down from here. One is to cross out each
letter after it has appeared more than once in the Statement like so:
My will to obtain the remains of the elephant man
Leaving these letters:
m y w i l t o b a n h e r s f p
And this sample sigil is the result:
But this often results in having a lot of letters to incorporate into a
Sigil. A simpler method is to cross out any letter at all that appears more
than once in the Statement. Like this:
My will to obtain the remains of the elephant man
Leaving these letters:
y w b r s f
And this sample sigil is the result:
However you choose to do it, the point is to make certain that the Sigil
once constructed bears absolutely no resemblance to the original Statement.
And that brings us to the artistic part. From here you must take the letters
you have left and use their shapes to create a symbol that will stand for
the desire. Do it any way you want. Use pens. Use pencils. Use parchment
paper and dragonsblood ink. Paint it. Cut it out of construction paper.
Design it on your computer. We're not picky. Neither is the Universe. It has
no preference for medium. It responds to energy. Your energy. The more of it
you put into your construction the more Power it will hold. As with
everything else in life, you will get out exactly what you put in, so put in
everything you've got. Just remember to border the Sigil to focus and
contain its energies.
Once you have your Sigil. Your work of art. The physical embodiment of that
which is your desire...Then you have to decide what to do with the thing.
And this is where our Sigil magick splits into two separate techniques
depending on the purpose for which your Sigil was constructed.
If your desire is for something which must be continually renewed...usually
nonmaterial things like self-confidence or prosperity...then take your Sigil
and hang it some place prominent where you will see it every single day. On
the fridge or off your computer monitor. Doesn't matter as long as you will
be sure to see it every single day.
In a very short while your Conscious
mind will cease to even notice the little charm. But your Unconscious will
and its Magick message will be continuously reinforced.
If your desire is for something that will arrive once in your lifetime or at
least one time at a time, like a new computer or a decent job, then you must
implant the Sigil into the Unconscious by whatever technique you prefer be
it meditation or orgasm or death postures (more on that later) and then you
ll have to destroy it. A real bummer after all that effort, we know,
particularly if it turned out really well, but necessary nonetheless.
Once you've destroyed it...(and we do mean completely destroyed it,
preferably by fire which leaves the least recognizable remains behind)..
then you have to forget all about the whole thing. Go do something mundane.
Watch TV, that'll numb your brain into silence for sure. Whatever you do,
don't think about it anymore. Be calm. Be confident. Be grateful. All good
things come to those who wait.

scrying
WATER SCRYING
Scrying is a method of divination and takes on many forms. Information
received varies with the type of scrying one is using to get answers.
Information can be objective, message given that are independing of the
scryer - or subjective, determined or influenced by the scryer. Scrying can
also be viewed as a form of mediumship, messages allegedly coming from
another realm. This all goes to the scrying tool used and the interpretation
of the symbol shown. A dream dictionary is often helpful.
As consciousness is evolving, so too are the meanings of the symbols.
Scrying comes from the Old English word descry meaning "to make out dimly"
or "to reveal." Adding the prefix/suffix 'be' (often 'gye' in Germanic
languages), gives us the modern word 'describe'.
This technique is a very ancient one, and common among Shamanistic
Traditions. Divination is the ability to see what patterns are forming
towards manifestation. What you "see" is actually what is likely to occur if
nothing changes the pattern being "woven". Here is a technique which I
teach: Pour some bottled water into a cereal bowl.
Mix either a blue or a green food color into the water, so that the liquid
is dark enough to hide the bottom of the bowl. At this point you have a
reflective surface. Place two candles as your source of light, so that the
light does not reflect upon the liquid (off a foot or two, in front of you
should do it).
Next is a series of hand passes over the liquid, slowly and deliberately.
Magickally speaking, the right hand is of an electrical nature/active charge
and the left hand is of a magnetic/receptive charge. Right handed pass will
strengthen the image and left handed passes will attract the image to form.
Begin by making left handed passes over the bowl, in a clockwise circle,
just a few inches above the water (palms open and facing down).
Stop, and gaze into the dark liquid, not At the liquid, but INTO the liquid.
You will need to repeat these passes as you go, from time to time.
Alternate between the left hand and the right hand. This requires patience,
and time. Use your intuition as you sit before the bowl.
Make sure the area is quiet and there are no distractions.
Drinking some Rosemary tea, prior to Divination, can aid in the work. There
are several herbs which aid the Psychic Mind, this is just one of them
(careful though, Rosemary can be toxic in large quantities).
You will need a large, deep bowl made from glass, brass or silver. It must
have a smooth and even rim.
You must set your base on some sort of tripod for best results. A tripod
made of laural boughs is the best.
You will need to do your own testing to find out which bowl works best for
you and how much water you should use. Do not use water from a tap. Get
clean, fresh water from a stream.
The ancient Greeks believed that nature spirits dwelled in fresh water. The
water may be stored in a vessel and used again.
However it is a good idea to replace your water once a month. Never collect
the water of a day time. Water should only be collected at night preferably
on a full moon.
To make your wand use a branch from a bay tree, hazel tree or the laural.
The end of the wand should be covered in dry tree sap or resin.
Dip the end of the wand into the water until it becomes wet. Wet the rims of
the bowl.
The best time to scy is at night when it is quite. By gently drawing the rim
of the wand around the bowl it will cause it to resonate.
The action of the resonating basin will cause circular ripples to form in
the basin. The water seems to breathe with the sounds.
It is the harmonics that seem to whisper forth predictions of the future.
These are interpreted with the help of a gaurdian angel.
You may also receive visual impressions which Nostradamus likened to that of
a "burning mirror".
CELTIC WATER SCRYING
This is a very ancient scrying method. The Celts used it quite often. What
you need is a large, deep bowl made from glass, brass or silver. You mustset
your base on (preferably) a tripod made of laurel boughs for best results.
Fill the bowl with clean, fresh water from a stream. The water may be stored
in a vessel and used again. The important thing is not to collect the water
during the day, but rather during the night, and preferably on a full moon.
This is done because of the close connection between water, the moon and the
Goddess.
You should also have a wand. Use either a branch from a bay or hazel tree,
or laurel. The end of the wand should be covered in dry tree sap or resin.
Dip the end of the wand into the water until it becomes wet. Wet the borders
of the bowl. Gently drawing the rim of the wand around the bowl it will
cause it to resonate. The resonating bowl will cause circular ripples to
form in the basin. It is up to you to interpret the visions.
Art of Scrying
Scrying can be an auto-deepening trance process that progresses in stages
using tools such as a crystal ball, or other medium. Initially, the medium
serves as a focus for the attention, removing unwanted thoughts from the
mind in the same way as a mantra. Once this is achieved, the scryer begins a
free association with the perceived images suggested, for instance in a
crystal ball, by the tiny inclusions, web-like faults and/or the cloudy glow
within the ball under low light (i.e. candlelight).
The technique of deliberately looking for and declaring these initial images
aloud, however trivial or irrelevant they may seem to the conscious mind, is
done with the intent of deepening the trance state, wherein the scryer hears
their own disassociated voice affirming what is seen within the concentrated
state in a kind of feedback loop. This process culminates in the achievement
of a final and desired end stage in which visual images and dramatic stories
seem to be projected within the mind's eye of the scryer, like an inner
movie. This overall process reputedly allows the scryer to "see" relevant
events or images within the chosen medium.
Scrying has been used for thousands of years by different cultures. Ancient
Egypt used scrying in their Initiations. This included water scrying, dream
scrying, oil scrying, and mirror scrying. One legend states that the goddess
Hathor carried a shield that could reflect back all things in their true
light. From this shield she allegedly fashioned the first magic mirror to
see."
Ancient Persia -- the Shahnama, a semi-historical epic work written in the
late 10th century, gives a description of what was called the Cup of Jamshid
used in pre-Islamic Persia, which was used by wizards and practitioners of
the esoteric sciences for observing all the seven layers of the universe.
Ancient Greeks and Celts practiced scrying using beryl, crystal, black glass
polished quartz, water, and other transparent or light catching bodies.
Nostradamus is believed to have employed a small bowl of water as a scrying
tool into which he gazed and received images of future events. Alchemists
Edward Kelley and John Dee employed a form of scrying using a small crystal
ball or shewstone - a piece of polished obsidion. The crystal ball and wax
tablets used by Dee and Kelley are on display at the British Museum in
London.
Scrying is the occult practice of using a medium, most commonly a reflective
surface or translucent body, to aid perceived psychic abilities such as
clairvoyance. The media often used to "see" are water, polished precious
stones, crystal balls, or mirrors. Scrying, in this context, uses a "visual"
process. There are some who believe the art of scrying is not limited to the
use of "reflective" or "translucent" bodies only, but includes other media.
Scrying has been used in many cultures as a means of seeing the past,
present, or future; in this sense scrying constitutes a form of divination.
If a young woman goes to a lake at midnight on Halloween, and gazes
at her image in the water, she shall see her lover's face reflected before
her.
A young girl should take 3 pails of water and place them in her bedroom
on Halloween's Eve, then pin her nightdress opposite her heart with three
leaves
of green holly. If she is roused from her sleep by the call of 3 bears, the
sounds
will die away, followed by a hoarse laugh. After the laugh ceases, the form
of
her future husband will appear. If he is deeply attached to her, he will
change
the position of the pails. If not, he will pass from the room without
touching them.
If a young girl washes her undergarments on Haloween Eve and, without
saying anything, hangs them over a chair to dry, she will watch the form of
her future
husband enter the room and turn the undergarments
Water Divination
Holding a stone, sit in front of a bowl of water. As a question with a
yes/no answer. Drop the stone into the water. Carefully count the ripple
that it makes.
If there is an even amount of ripples (2, 4, 6, 8, etc.) the answer is yes,
if there is an odd amount (3, 5, 7, 9, etc.) the answer is no.

The Worst (And Most Common) Etiquette Mistakes
Party Poopers
When you receive an invitation to a dinner or party--whether by E-vite, voicemail, or casual email--RESPOND. Yeah, that’s what that little “RSVP” thing means. Everyone knows it, yet it’s amazing how many don’t respond. Even for weddings! Planning a party or event requires a lot of work, so do the host a simple favor and let them know if you're coming or not.
Nickel & Dimin’
How annoying is it when you go to dinner with four or more people, the check finally arrives, and one of your meal companions begins to divvy up the check down to the last penny? Sure, we get that Sally had a shrimp salad, and Janet had two iced teas, while Beth only had water, and you ordered a slice of peach pie (a la mode, which is extra). The point is, if you go out to dinner with a group, be prepared to split the bill more or less evenly. If there's an outstanding cost differential, fine, estimate it and be done with it. The person who spends twenty minutes dividing the bill to the dime comes off as a cheapskate –- and kills the festive mood.
The Line-Up
Lines are a fact of life. At the post office, the supermarket, just about everywhere these days. For starters, moaners who huff and gripe about standing in a line of three people for all of five minutes are tops on our list. Get over yourself -- if you don’t have a few minutes to wait to buy that loaf of bread, then pick it up another time. Another thing: Don’t show your impatience by creeping up so close to the person in front of you that they can feel your breath. Crowding those around you will not get you to the front any faster, so give them some space. Finally, cutting in line or trying to ignore the fact that there IS a line –- stop it! Everyone’s time is valuable.
The ME Show
It’s great to hear all the crazy, wacky, wonderful things happening in the lives of others. Jobs, engagements, breakups, boyfriends, puppies, pregnancies, vacations — very good stuff, all of it. But once you’ve listened to a friend, family member, or colleague spout about their own fabulous life for an hour (or two), it’s normal to expect them to ask, “So, what’s going on with you?” Those who blab on about themselves while you listen intently, then don’t ask a thing about you in return are just plain rude.
Baby Biz
Changing a poopy baby diaper around others is nasty -- and we're moms. Changing the other kind of baby diaper in public is one thing, but still should only be done when absolutely necessary!
Mobile Madness
As much as we love the modern age, there are days when we long to go to a coffee shop, movie theatre, bookstore, or post office and not hear some teen queen dishing to her friend about last night's hot date with Todd or eavesdrop (unwillingly) on a screaming family feud. Mobile phones are essential, but please, people, pleeeeeeease, use a little restraint on the when's, what's, and where's. We're happy that Todd is "totally built" but we're going to have to start walking around town and slapping people with "TMI" tickets (yes, too much information).
Smokes
Everyone has a right to smoke in public, but be conscious of whose face your smoke is blowing into. Are there kids nearby? And we just might kick the butt of the next person we see throwing their burning butt on the ground without putting it out. Really, find an ashtray or trashcan where you can extinguish and dispose of it properly -- that thing is garbage, not decoration for our streets and sidewalks.
The Pee & Flee
Public bathrooms get used by everyone -- yup, they're public! So, making a mess of the toilet seat, and then prancing out without bothering to wipe it up -- not cool. Leaving a mess for the next visitor is completely unacceptable (and disgustingly unsanitary, of course). Take 10 seconds to rip off a piece of toilet paper, toilet seat cover, or a paper towel, and do your due diligence!
Stealing
...a parking spot, that is. Yeah, you know who you are. If someone has their blinker on and is patiently waiting for a spot, it's theirs. And if you've already passed a spot up, it's gone. Treat others as you expect to be treated, and the parking goddesses will smile down upon you... eventually.
Belly Baring
Men, women -- anyone who's passed puberty, everyone who isn't lounging poolside or oceanside -- resist the urge to bare those bellies. They may be beautiful, Buddha-like, jolly, but sometimes they can be flabby, hairy, and not ripe for public consumption. If you're jogging, fellas, t-shirts or tanks won't hurt your workout, so throw one on. Gals, midriff fashions are never really on our "Do" list, and that goes double if your age doesn't contain the word "teen." There are plenty of ways for all of us to flaunt what we got without sharing our tum-tums with the world.
Spitting
This gets especially yucky when it's one of those enormous globs that looks like it could be alive. Some people (males, in particular) think it's kind of a cool-guy thing to do. We're here to tell ya that no one wants to see you hock a big gooey one out of your car, onto the sidewalk, or anywhere else for that matter. Try a tissue.
Honking Problem
People who honk too often, too unnecessarily, or just to express their emotions are on our list of Most Etiquette Challenged. If you're trying to warn someone about a collision or problem, fine, otherwise it's not that serious. Give it a rest!
