Sorrel

No matter what it's called, it's a totally tasty treat!!!!!  I grew up eating this, and now I grow it in my own garden.... but, people with lawns just think of this as a weed!

Common sorrel has been cultivated for centuries. The leaves may be pureed in soups and sauces or added to salads; they have a flavor that is similar to kiwifruit or sour wild strawberries. The plant's sharp taste is due to oxalic acid, which is mildly toxic.

In northern Nigeria, sorrel is known as yakuwa or sure (pronounced suuray) in Hausa or karassu in Kanuri. It is also used in stews usually in addition to spinach. In some Hausa communities, it is steamed and made into salad using kuli-kuli (traditional roasted peanut cakes with oil extracted), salt, pepper, onion and tomatoes. The recipe varies according to different levels of household income. A drink called zobo (sorrel squash) is made from a decoction of the plant calyx.

In Romania, wild or garden sorrel, known as măcriş or ştevie, is used to make sour soups, stewed with spinach, added fresh to lettuce and spinach in salads or over open sandwiches.

In Russia and Ukraine it is called shchavel (щавель) and is used to make soup called green borscht. It is used as a soup ingredient in other countries, too (e.g. Lithuania, where it is known as rūgštynė).

In Hungary the plant and its leaves are known as sóska (Hungarian pronunciation: [ˈʃoːʃkɒ]). It is called kuzukulağı ('lamb's ear') in Turkish. In Polish it is called szczaw.

In Croatia and Bulgaria is used for soups or with mashed potatoes, or as part of a traditional dish containing eel and other green herbs.

In rural Greece it is used with spinach, leeks, and chard in spanakopita.

In the Flemish part of Belgium it is called zurkel and preserved pureed sorrel is mixed with mashed potatoes and eaten with sausages, meatballs or fried bacon, as a traditional winter dish.

In Vietnam it is called Rau Chua and is used to added fresh to lettuce and in salads for Bánh Xēo.

In Portugal, it is called azeda or azeda-brava , "sour", "fierce sour", and is usually eaten raw in salads or used to make soups. This is identical to its use in Brazil, under the name of azedinha , "small/lovely tart").

In India, the leaves are called chukkakura in Telugu, and are used in making delicious recipes. Chukkakura pappu soup made with yellow lentils is also called toor dal in India.

In Albania it is called lëpjeta, the leaves are simmered and served cold marinated in olive oil, it is used in soups, and even as an ingredient for filling byrek pies (byrek me lakra).
This name can be confused with the hibiscus calyces or hibiscus tea.

Beauty

I'm going to tell you guys a little secret of mine.  I figure who better to share it with then my witchy friends.

People are always complementing me on my skin... then they find out I'm over 60 and freak out!!!
I'm not saying I look 20, but I sure can pass for under 40... and this is my secret.

Get a bottle that closes... don't matter what shape or anything... but make sure it's GLASS!

In the bottle I add equal portions of WHITE VINEGAR, AND APPLE CIDER VINEGAR (you have to add both)  and then top it off with a HUGE DOLLOP OF HONEY.... shake it up, and it's ready. (do not refrigerate, keep it on your bathroom counter)

Every night after you wash and dry your face (no soap unless you have makeup on, otherwise just use hot water)  You take a cotton pad and soak it in the solution.  And dab it all over you face... especially where there are wrinkles (light or deep ones, it doesn't matter... and any discoloration spots on your face too)

Now comes the NOT SO FUN PART!  It's going to BURN!

First off, if you apply it around your eyes.. make sure you have a fan of some sort to keep fanning your face... or the VINEGAR vapors with make your eyes water!!!

Then sit there.... go on your computer or watch TV and see how long you can last with that shit burning your face...

I've made it to 10 minutes, but that's after months of doing it!!!

Then run and wash that stuff off!!

This is NOT a fast fix!  It'll take months to have the same effect as a Doctors Acid Peel... but much gentler.

It also fix's your skins PH... if your oily or dry or a mix... GONE!  Just normal skin is left... no more shinny nose's!!

Another thing I suggest is to take one face towel, wash it a few times, and DO NOT USE FABRIC SOFTENER!!!

Keep the towel as rough as you can get it, and use it to rub down your face after you wash the vinegar off!!  This will get rid of the dead cells and allow fresh ones to grow!

(don't hear those cretins who tell you to dab your face dry.. the rougher the better... gets rid of all those old dry cells!)

sound horrible, doesn't it???  But, try it for a month... and see what happens... You will never regret it!!!

Black pepper

Black pepper is used in spells and charms that banish negativity and provide protection.

You can burn black pepper to rid your home of negative energies prior to using sage (smudging).

Carry black pepper corns with you as a charm to ward off petty jealousy against you and it will help to free your mind of jealousy.

Pepper is also used to promote courage. Mixed with salt and scattered around your property, it will clear and protect your home from negative energy.

Oils

(Use topically with carrier oil. This does not replace medical advice.)

Frankincense has many wonderful attributes such as being anti-bacterial and good for pain relief. It can be used to relieve stress, to help cuts and scrapes heal quicker and reduce scars. It is often said "when in doubt use Frankincense."

Eucalyptus oil has anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties that make it good to use for colds and fevers. It is also an anti-pyretic and can be used to help relieve nausea and vomiting.

Peppermint is used as a stimulant to wake the body and clear the mind. It can be very good for nausea. It can be used for congestion and to relieve fevers. Careful using peppermint on children under 6, make sure is very diluted.

Lavender has anti-viral, anti-inflammatory, and pain relieving properties. It can boost your bodies' natural immunity. Above all it is prized for its wonderful smell and its calming scent that can help you relax and sleep better

Lemon has a wonderful smell that can help to balance emotions. Used in small doses it can energize, and in larger doses as a calming agent. It is also easy to use to make your own cleaning recipes and do away with harsh (and expensive) household cleaners.

Tea tree or Melaleuca oil has many useful antibacterial and antifungal properties. It can be used to help heal cuts, scrapes, bites, acne, dandruff, athelete's foot and a host of other issues. It can also be used to make your own household cleaners.

Chamomile can be used as an alternative or alongside lavender for its calming traits. It can be used in baths or topically to help one sleep or relax. It can be used topically to eliminate gas or bloating. Roman Chamomile has anti-inflammatory properties

Manners

When you have good manners, and people don't care or use them themselves... I get pissed!!

When someone calls me... the first thing I say is "Hi, what up?"  and then I sit there for like an hour as they tell me EVERYTHING they are up to... including family members that I don't give a fuck about!!  I asked, and I expect this.

But, after they are finished.... NOTHING... they don't ask me how I've been, or "What's up" NOT ONE FREAKING TIME!

Also, when someone is sick.... I'll call them after a few days.... just to find out how they are doing, if they need anything, check on them....I'll even ask a few weeks or months later how they are doing.... especially if it's an injury. when I'M SICK... NOT ONE FREAKING CALL.... EVER!

I recently found out I have Polycystic kidney disease... and I'm wasn't doing great.... I told my sister and friends about it..... and NOTHING!  I haven't heard one word from them asking how I am!!!  They call me to tell me EVERY FREAKING THING THEY DO.... but not ONE question about me, or how I'm doing... NOT ONE!

I also will call someone after they have a party or big shindig... to find out how it went.  Did they have fun?  How was the food?  And yet..... when I'm going to a party... I won't hear a word from anyone.

Honestly.... I don't know if it's just I have better manners.... or that my family and friends just don't give a flying fuck about me..... I'm pretty sure it's the last one!!!

I'm thinking it might be time to cut all ties with those fair weather friends and family.  maybe there are people out there who care... and want to know how I am?
